Free Mulch for Madison Residents

Madison residents can get up to 30 gallons (or 6 five gallon buckets) of mulch for free from the Brush Processing Center.

Where is the free mulch?

It is located at 121 E. Olin Avenue. Do not approach the booth or the scale.

The free mulch is to your left along the fence. There will be a sign and a small pile of mulch.

Free mulch supply is limited

Mulch is not guaranteed to be there when you arrive. Free mulch will be restocked as workers are available to do so.

Other mulch at this site is not available for free and is reserved for other purposes, like for sale to farmers or use in playgrounds.

We work to keep the free mulch area as well stocked as possible.

Emerald Ash Borer Information

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection has certified our brush processing site for safe shredding of ash trees. This means that mulch coming from our site will be free of the emerald ash borer.
