ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES: LANDFILLS
CLOSED LANDFILL LOCATIONS
The City of Madison Engineering Division has been getting an increasing number of requests for information regarding the location of closed abandoned landfills which might affect adjacent properties. As of this date, no unit of state or local government has such a map. The Engineering Division has compiled a preliminary map of all of the closed landfills that staff is aware of for City use only. The list is not complete and should be used with caution. Please read the disclaimer prior to using the map. It can be viewed by calling Wayne Rippl at (608) 266-4098.
LANDFILL GAS AND GROUNDWATER EVALUATIONS
The Engineering Division operates remediation systems at five closed landfills. Underground gas and leachate collection systems operate 24 hours per day. The data from these systems can only be viewed at the Engineering Division. A summary of the conditions at each site can be viewed below.

OLIN LANDFILL REMEDIATION

Individual Landfill Maps and Adjacent Properties
The City has compiled maps showing the underground gas and leachate control systems at the five landfills operated by the City. A sixth landfill, Truax Landfill, at Packers Avenue and Anderson Street, is operated by Dane County Airport Staff.
The City maps show the approximate limits of waste and the adjacent property lines. For detailed information regarding the landfills and the specific location of landfill piping and waste limits, please call Wayne Rippl at (608) 266-4098.
