Fire Chief Debra Amesqua speaks in support of legislation requiring firesafe cigarettes as State Sen. Judy Robson and members of the fire service look on.

Chief Amesqua gathers with legislators and members of the fire service to view firesafe cigarette legislation being introduced by State Sen. Judy Robson.

Fire destroyed a repair shop at Homburg Construction on December 13.  Damage is estimated at $300,000.  Water was supplied by relay pumping from a fire hydrant one-half mile away and water tankers from five neighboring fire departments.

On June 20, the Madison Fire Department responded to a car that crashed through a home on Rustic Ridge Court.  There were no injuries due to the crash, however there was extensive damage to the house.

Members of the Madison Fire Department's Heavy Urban Rescue Team used structural supports called struts to temporarily support the home's floor.  This provided the extra reinforcement the floor needed to support the additional weight of the car.

Once the struts were in place, a local towing company pulled the car out of the house through the initial point of entry.  The car crashed through the front wall, traveled across the house and came to rest in the sunroom at the rear of the home.

MADISON FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS PROCESSES IN PLACE TO PROTECT PATRONS IN NIGHTCLUBS

The Madison Fire Department wants to let the community know that the Department has a system in place to prevent pyrotechnic accidents similar to the incident in Rhode Island.

The Madison Fire Department prevention strategies include:

  • Night time inspections
  • Regular inspections twice a year
  • Application, review and inspection process for pyrotechnics
  • Fire safety and evacuation plans
  • Comprehensive and contemporary fire code

All of these methods are used in Madison to prevent tragedies like the ones, which occurred in Chicago and Rhode Island.
