In June 2022, Madison adopted updates to the Historic Preservation Ordinance. This process that began in 2014.
| Historic Preservation Plan |
The Historic Preservation Plan celebrates and preserves places that represent Madison’s history. The Common Council adopted the plan in May 2020. It includes strategies to:
1) Integrate preservation into policy and planning
2) Include preservation in land use, zoning, and development standards
3) Explore educational and promotion partnerships
4) Capitalize on economic development and financial incentives
5) Highlight sustainable building
6) Encourage heritage tourism
