Keep Kids Safe

The 16th Annual SARIS
Spoke Out Ride and Walk to Keep Kids Safe will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008
to benefit Prevent Child Abuse Wisconsin, a program of Children's Service
Society of Wisconsin. The ride/walk will start and end at Olin Park in Madison,
Wis. between 9:00 am and noon. The event features a bike ride around Lake
Monona, a 30-mile ride or a 2.5-mile walk plus a fun-filled celebration with
refreshments and family entertainment. This
is an opportunity to be a part of one of Wisconsin's longest running rides or
walks to prevent child abuse. Training for the SARIS Spoke Out is a great
opportunity to kick-off the spring outdoor season. Pre-registration is $20 for
adults and $5 for youth 17 and under. Children under 5 years old are free. Visit

Mayor Dave Races Around the Square
with 400 Kids in the Fit Kids Challenge

Over 800 kids from 18 months to 12 years
old participated in the 2005 Fit Kids Challenge, which kicked off May 11
and ended September 11 with a special celebration. Over half were
able to join Mayor Dave for the September 10 race around the Square, followed
by a party with games, music and healthy snacks on the rooftop of Monona
Terrace. Each participating child received an Olympic-style medal as the
crossed the Ironman finish line.
The Fit Kids Challenge and Celebration was
presented by Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation and Fit City Madison.

Kids Challenge With a Walk at Schenk Elementary School
On May 11, Mayor Dave along
with Gov. Doyle, Bucky Badger and the Health Nut, launched a 16-week program to help keep kids active this
summer. The free activity-based project encourages kids to
log their hours of active play time to accumulate time and
reach milestones. Schenk students, the choir and The event culminates September 11 with a
fun run around the Capitol Square finishing at the Ironman Finish Line.

Technical College Chef Paul Short in a cooking
demonstration at the South Madison Health and Family
Center. Chef Short demonstrated healthy cooking techniques
and prepared two soup recipes.
