WEST DISTRICT RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES

Criminals Gaining Access Through Garages

Over the past month, West District detectives have detected a rash of similar burglaries. Generally, criminals have been gaining access into homes between the hours or 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. by first entering unlocked garages. Additionally, lawbreakers have gotten into unlocked vehicles - parked outside of homes - and then used garage door openers to gain garage access. There have been around ten of these burglaries. In most cases criminals are targeting small electronics. The Madison Police Department urges residents to lock homes, garages, and vehicles, as often times these are crimes of opportunity. Also, if you see suspicious vehicles or people in your neighborhood please call 911. Anyone with information on those who may be associated with these recent burglaries is urged to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014. Callers can remain anonymous, and could be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward.
