EastSide Dog Park Proposal
On November 17, 2008 a joint meeting of various
eastside neighborhoods was held at Olbrich Botanical
Gardens to discuss the feasibility of establishing one
or more off-leash and/or on-leash dog park(s) on the
eastside.
Various parks were proposed by the Parks Division
staff and are listed on the attached sheets.
Those present also had the opportunity to
propose other park locations they felt would be
appropriate. One
of the criteria mentioned most often was that dog
owners were looking for locations where walking to the
park would be an option.
Parks staff explained the process for establishing dog
parks. See
checklist.. Attendees
of the meeting learned that the next step in the
process is to engage neighborhoods, neighborhood
associations and their alders in the process and
obtain their buy in for proposed locations.
Hopefully, the neighborhood associations and
alders will have results for the Parks staff by mid
February so that new dog parks can be established in
spring 2009.
