Tonight marks the start of the third annual Olin Park Concert Series, presented by FOOT - the Friends of Olin-Turville - in partnership with the Madison Parks Department and the Madison Police Department. These weekly concerts, held in the Olin Park Pavillion, are free and appropriate for music- and nature-lovers of all ages. Share this beautiful location, great local music, and perfect spring weather at these good old fashioned community gatherings. Get to know neighbors, park advocates, and members of the South District Community Policing Team at these fun, family-friendly events.
Tonight, the Olin Park Pavilion welcomes the Americana rock of The Getaway Drivers; show starts at 6pm.
This concert series rose out of efforts of the South District Community Policing Team, in coordination with the Bay Creek Neighborhood Association and the Madison Parks Department, to eliminate nuisance behavior plaguing the park, and to create a safe and welcoming environment for the community. These Olin-Turville "clean-up" efforts proved very successful, and FOOT was founded to carry on the work started by MPD officers. FOOT sponsors numerous events and activities in the park throughout the year. "These concerts are both a celebration of that success and a reminder of the need to continue to work to keep Olin a safe and vital place," says Sergeant Jim Dexheimer, Madison Police coordinator for the event.
The music and camraderie continues for the remainder of the month, with Chris Plata on May 16, The Whiskey Farm on May 23, and Lou & Peter Berryman on May 29. See you at the park!
Special thanks to Saris Cycling Group for their generous support for these events.
