This morning, five new recruits were sworn in as the Class of 2013's Accelerated Academy. These five officers were welcomed in a ceremony held in the newly-finished auditorium at the Madison Police Training Center, in which Chief Wray, Mayor Soglin, and Police and Fire Commission President George Kamperschroer shared their high hopes for the group, which was selected from a large pool of candidates for their unique skills and their understanding of the value of community policing.
In his opening remarks, Captain of Training and Personnel Tom Snyder remarked, "These five individuals are more than just bodies to fill patrol beats – they are individuals who were chosen because we believe they will exemplify the type of policing that is desired and has come to be expected in this community. All five come to us with prior police experience, having worked within Dane County or other Southern Wisconsin police departments. We are very happy to have them with us today."
Welcome to these recruits, and best wishes for much success in our department. We look forward to working with you all.
