This week, January 16 through 20, has been declared "Adult School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week" by the state of Wisconsin! Now is a wonderful time to say thank you to those who devote a couple hours every day to keep our children safe. We all seem to know one or many of them and you may have a favorite, but how do you thank them?
A wave of recognition is always appreciated, but also know what to do when approaching a school crossing guard. Slow down! Approach cautiously as children may be at or near a crossing. When a guard raises their stop sign, stop at least 10 feet back and stay stopped until both the children and the crossing guard have reached the curb. Everyone can help by being alert in school zones (including putting cell phones away!) and simply by sharing a friendly wave as many of the guards do for us.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our crossing guards for doing the very important job that they do! Thank you, crossing guards, for helping to keep our communities safe!
