I don't know how many of you realize we have a policing celebrity in our midst! Professor Herman Goldstein currently lives in our fantastic district. His roots in policing run long and deep. He is worth a Google search. He is considered the father of "Problem Oriented Policing" which for many years was run right here out of the UW. His name is known literally around the globe as one of the preeminent police researchers of our time. He has written countless articles and some books on the results of the research he has done. In the early 1960's, he served as the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department. The stories he can tell about those days!!!!
Lt. Hanson and I along with a few other law enforcement types were fortunate to sit down with him this week to hear his thoughts on current police related issues. He is an invaluable resource that we tap into when can. Each meeting with him is a fascinating experience. Thanks to Professor Goldstein for spending time with us to impart some wisdom!!
