Soon the weather will cool and the leaves will begin to change colors. To many of us, that means that summer is soon ending and the school season is upon us. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the newest Educational Resource Officer (ERO) who began his new assignment at La Follette High School earlier this month.
Officer Roderick Johnson is excited to begin this assignment and work with students, staff, and parents at LHS. Officer Johnson has spent many years working with youth, and we believe he has unique experiences, qualifications, and insights that will allow him to serve the school community.
Officer Johnson was born and raised in Milwaukee. Basketball has played an integral role throughout his life. He played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee before transferring to Southeast Missouri State University. He also played professional basketball in Poland. Officer Johnson joined the MPD in 2008 and has served as a patrol officer and most recently as an officer in the Gang Unit. Officer Johnson is not a stranger to LHS. He has spent a good deal of time at the school when filling in as a temporary ERO, as well as when simply stopping by to visit with students and staff.
We value our partnership with the Madison Metropolitan School District, and Educational Resource Officers play a major role in maintaining this relationship. Our ERO's are asked to do a lot, and this position can be a very challenging job. Off. Johnson believes communication skills in his new role are critical. He also believes it is important to remain a positive role model and mentor for students.
We are very fortunate to have Officer Johnson on board. Should you find yourself at LHS, please feel free to say hello and introduce youself. We wish the best for him, as well as all of our MMSD students and staff. Have a safe and successful school year!
