Free Bikes 4 Kidz Madison began in 2016 as the 4th affiliate organization in the FB4K family. The flagship organization started in a Minnesota garage in 2008, where founder Terry Esau gave away 250 bikes. His thought was that people have bikes they no longer need and there are kids and families who do need them.
The organization operates from January to March, collecting bikes from the community, cleaning them, prepping them and tuning them. Hundreds of volunteers donate their time and elbow grease to make this happen. Once the bikes are ready, they give away all of the bikes in one weekend through a series of community partner organizations already working with local youth. In 2018 FB4K gave away 1,100+ bikes.
Our South Community Polcing Team officers helped by cleaning up bikes recently.
