On Tuesday, 4/13, Madison PD conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement project on Northport Dr. The project focused on speeding and seatbelt use.
During the 4 hour project, a total of 31 traffic stops were attempted with 2 persons fleeing from the attempted stop. All vehicles stopped were traveling at least 14 MPH over the posted 35 MPH limit. The highest recorded speed was 82 MPH (47 MPH over the speed limit), with 7 additional stops being made for at least 20 MPH over the limit. On a positive note, the vast majority of those stopped were wearing thier seatbelts.
For the past 5 years the stretch of Northport Dr, from Packers Ave to Kennedy, has had 3 fatal crashes resulting in 6 fatalities, and 10 other serious injury crashes.
Please slow down and buckle-up.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation
