The Madison PD will be conducting an enhanced traffic enforcement project this evening on the Beltline.
According to the National Safety Council, Speeding was a factor in 26% of all traffic fatalities in 2019, killing 9,478, or an average of over 25 people per day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 8,544.

These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Officers from MPD conducted an enhanced speed enforcement operation from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A total of 31 stops were conducted. 26 of the 31 stops were for vehicles traveling at least 20 MPH over the posted 55 MPH limit. Two vehicles were stopped for traveling 82 MPH.
