On Tuesday, June 1, members of the officers conducted an enhanced enforcement operation in the area of Packers and Commercial Ave. This area was selected due to several recent concerns regarding parents trying to walk their children to school and having to cross Packers Ave at an uncontrolled intersection/crosswalk.
From 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. officers conducted a total of 34 stops for speeding. All stops were made for vehicles traveling at least 15 MPH over the posted speed limit (35 MPH). The four highest speeds recorded were 58, 58, 59 and 70 MPH (that's twice the posted limit). Now imagine trying to walk children across that road.
Please slow down, buckle up, and give our pedestrians and bicyclists room to share our streets.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
