On Thursday, June 3rd, officers conducted an enhanced enforcement project in the 800 & 900 blocks of E Washington Ave (for reference, this is the area around Breese Stevens Field, a large hotel, several large apartment buildings, a grocery store and numerous small businesses and resturants). The project focused on pedestrian and bicyclists safety.
From 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. officers conducted a total of 28 stops with 1 stolen vehicle fleeing. All vehicles were traveling at least 15 MPH over the posted 25 MPH speed limit. Highest speeds in this dense pedestrian and bicyclist area were 46 (six of those), 48, and 50 (two of those).
Please slow down, buckle up, and keep an eye out for our pedestrians and bicyclists.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
