On Friday, 7/23/21, Officers from the Madison Police Department conducted an ehanced enforcement project on E Washington Ave. During the project officers were focussing on speeding and other hazardous violations.
A total of 26 stops were made during the project. 22 stops were for speeding, 1 for racing, 1 for restricted lane use (passing in the right parking lane), 1 for light motor vehicle noise control (reving engine) and 1 equipment violation.
Officers on the project also assisted when a vehicle caught fire shortly after officers had witnessed it reving its engine at a high rate. MFD assisted in putting the vehicle out after it became fully engulfed. Officers witnessed the violation but were in the process of stopping a seperate vehicle for a similiar violation near E Washington Ave and 4th St.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office.
