Good afternoon,
The East District Summer Strategic Plan has come to an end. In addition to responding to calls for service East officers have been hard at work providing a proactive presence in the district. As a reminder the strategic plan prioritizes crime reduction (burglary, stolen autos, theft from auto and shots fired incidents), addressing hazardous driving on E. Washington Ave., median safety enforcement and of course community engagement.
Crime prevention efforts have been reviewed on a weekly basis. Crime reduction strategies have been implemented throughout the district and across all shifts. Officers have done a great job of being proactive during unobligated time. Over the 84 day evaluation period between May 24th and August 16th compared to the same time period in 2020 burglaries, theft from auto and shots fired incidents are trending downward. Unfortunately, in spite of reduction efforts stolen autos continue to trend upward as compared to the same time period as the previous year.
Hopefully you have witnessed the presence of officers throughout the district over the course of the summer. It is hard to believe that snow is in the near future. As a reminder staff has attended several community meetings and community events during the summer and I encourage you to invite me or someone from the district to be part of a meeting or event.
Enjoy the remaining days of summer,
Captain Gary
East District
