Last night, 11/4/21, Officers from the Madison Police Department conducted an enhanced enforcement project on the W Beltline Hwy near Old Sauk Rd focusing on speeding, seat belt use, and other hazardous violations. The project was conducted from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
During this project officers conducted a total of 23 stops for speeding. All vehicles stopped were for speeds at least 20 MPH over the posted limit (55 MPH). The average speed stopped was 80 MPH. The highest recorded speed for this project was 105 MPH (50 MPH over the speed limit). That driver was also arrested and cited for OWI.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
