Yesterday, Officers from the Madison Police Department conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement project on Stoughton Rd focusing on speeding, seat belt use, and other hazardous violations. The project was conducted from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
During this project officers conducted a total of 24 stops for speeding. The average speed stopped was 70 MPH (15 MPH over the speed limit) . The highest recorded speed for this project was 85 MPH (30 MPH over the speed limit), and a total of 4 stops were made for vehicles traveling 80 MPH or greater.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
