On Saturday, 1/8/2022, Officers from the Madison Police Department conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement project focusing on OWI, and other hazardous violations. The project was conducted from 8:00 PM until midnight in the area of the 900 block of E Washington Ave.
During this project officers conducted a total of 14 stops (12 for speeding and 2 for safety equipment violations). The average speed stopped was 39 MPH (25 MPH the speed limit) . The highest recorded speed for this project was 45 MPH (20 MPH over the speed limit). 1 driver was arrested for OMVWI.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
