This morning, Officers from the Madison Police Department, including members of TEST (Traffic Enforcement & Safety Team) conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement project on Packers Rd near Schlimgen Ave, focusing on speeding, seat belt use, and other hazardous violations. The project was conducted from 7:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
During this project officers conducted a total of 24 stops for speeding. The highest recorded speed for this project was 85 MPH (50 MPH over the speed limit), and a total of 4 stops were made for vehicles traveling at least 30 MPH over the speed limit. This area has several crosswalks crossing Packers Ave and is also a school zone (when children are present).
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
