This afternoon, Officers from the Madison Police Department, including members of TEST (Traffic Enforcement & Safety Team) conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement project in the 2000 block of S Park St, focusing on speeding, seat belt use, and other hazardous violations. The project was conducted from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
During this project officers conducted a total of 20 stops for speeding. The highest recorded speed for this project was 58 MPH (33 MPH over the speed limit), and a total of 6 stops were made for vehicles traveling at least 20 MPH over the speed limit. The average speed stopped was for 44 MPH (19 MPH over the speed limit). This area has numerous crosswalks and is heavily utilized by bicyclists. Officers also arrested 1 driver for OMVWI.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
