Last evening, Officers from the Madison Police Department, including members of TEST (Traffic Enforcement & Safety Team), conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement project on the Beltline near John Nolen Dr, focusing on speeding, seat belt use, and other hazardous violations. The project was conducted from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
During this project officers conducted a total of 23 stops for speeding. The average speed stopped for this project was 73 MPH (18 MPH over the speed limit), and a total of 5 stops were made for vehicles traveling at least 20 MPH over the speed limit.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
