On Friday, Feb 25, Officers from the Madison Police Department conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement project focusing on OWI, Speeding, and other hazardous violations. The project was conducted from 8:00 PM until midnight on the W. Beltline Hwy near Fish Hatchery Rd. During this project officers conducted a total of 24 stops. All vehicles were stopped for traveling at least 70 MPH (15 MPH over the speed limit).
The above enforcement efforts was made possible through traffic enforcement overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
Today, Tuesday, March 1, Officers from the Madison PD Traffic Enforcement and Safety Team (TEST) conducted an enforcement effort focussing on speeding and other hazardous vioulations. The project was conducted from 9:15 AM until 12:45 PM on the W Beltline Hwy near Whitney Way. Officers conducted a total of 38 stops, all for speeding, all for going at least 75 MPH (20 MPH over the speed limit). The average speed stopped was for 78 MPH. Two vehicles were stopped for going 87 MPH (32 MPH over the speed limit).
So, for 3.5 hours we stopped someone every 5.5 minutes for going at least 75 MPH on the Beltline.
