In August, the Madison Police Department is continuing to focus on hazardous driving behaviors throughout the City. So far in August, MPD has conducted a total of 21 enhanced traffic enforcement projects, with an additional 6 scheduled for the remainder of the month.
These projects focus on hazardous driving behaviors that directly impact pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. Behaviors such as speeding, and impaired driving, are most often causative factors in serious and fatal crashes.
The Madison Police Department will continue these efforts in September with an additional 25 projects planned.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
