The Madison Police Department's CORE Unit hosted its third annual Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway on Monday, November 25th, bringing together police officers, local law enforcement, and community members to provide holiday meals to those in need. Neighborhood Officers, CORE officers, Amigos En Azul, PRIDE, the Black Officers Coalition, and various local law enforcement jurisdictions worked together to pack and distribute over 100 meals within Madison, ensuring that families across the city received a full Thanksgiving dinner. The event also included members of our "Coffee with a Cop" group, fostering positive interactions between the police and the community.
This year's giveaway received generous support from several local organizations. Additionally, the Madison Community Policing Foundation provided funding for the meals and volunteered their time to help package them. Metcalfe's Market donated turkeys and offered a significant discount on side dishes, while the City of Madison Engineering Department assisted with transporting the food to the Midtown Police District for distribution.
This collaboration of donations, support, and volunteer efforts helped make the event a success, offering holiday cheer to those who might otherwise go without during Thanksgiving.
With gratitude,
Shannon Blackamore, Captain of Police
