My name is Shannon Blackamore and I am the newly appointed Captain of the Midtown Police District. The Midtown Police District serves as a vibrant and diverse area within the City of Madison, with a strong focus on building community partnerships, enhancing public safety, and addressing the needs of residents. This district encompasses a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and key transportation routes, making it an integral part of Madison's overall safety strategy. The Midtown District's officers work diligently to address crime, promote traffic safety, and ensure the well-being of all members of the community. We are dedicated to proactive policing, community engagement, and fostering trust between the police department and the neighborhoods we serve.
As the newly appointed Captain of the Midtown Police District, I bring over 23 years of experience in law enforcement with the Madison Police Department. Throughout my career, I have served in various roles, including undercover officer, School Resource Officer, Public Information Officer, Gang Unit Sergeant, Lieutenant of Detectives, and as shift Officer in Charge. Most recently, I led the Community Outreach, Emergency Management, and Mental Health unit. I take on this role following the retirement of former Captain Jason Freedman.
I have command responsiblity for both the patrol and investigative bureaus of the Midtown Police District, ensuring that our officers are supported and equipped to serve the community effectively. My focus remains on officer well-being, reducing crime, enhancing traffic safety, and continuing the vital work of community collaboration. I firmly believe that building strong partnerships with our community members is key to making our neighborhoods safer and stronger. I look forward to working with you all to further these goals and maintain the Midtown District as a place where everyone feels safe and supported.
All My Best,
Capt. Shannon Blackamore
