Mid day today, MPD started searching for the below 74 year old, Stephen Nelsen who walked away from his home in the 3600 block of Nakoma Road. Mr. Nelsen suffers from dementia and is a former UW Madison professor. Our K9 Unit believes they tracked him to the intersection of Monroe and Regent Streets, but not sure after that. It is possible he may have been walking toward campus. As of 4p.m. today he is still missing and we have put this out to the media asking for citizens to be on the lookout for Mr. Nelsen this evening. The UWPD is also aware and searching the campus area. We have our MPD Mounted Unit out in the Nakoma, Dudgeon Monroe, Regent and Vilas neighborhoods.
