Should you be looking for something to do on Saturday, August 9th I would encourage you to come out and watch a Police Motorcycle Competition right here in Madison. Many of you have seen YouTube videos of motor officer riding skills, or many of you have seen local motor officers riding demonstrations.
Madison Police Department Motor Officers, along with motor officers from around the county, state and country (the farthest coming from Jackson, MS) will be training hard all day Thursday and Friday, leading up to a Skills Competition on Saturday. While the riding skills demonstrated by these motor officers is always entertaining to others (largely because you get to witness both the success and failure – meaning not all motorcycles will stay upright), the training and competition is vital to the safety of the motor officer to operate motorcycles as a part of their job. And while the competition on the last day of the event (Saturday) is fun and structured as a competition, it is truly an incredible way in which we are able to induce a high level of stress on the motor officer and require them to still safely operate their motorcycle.
This event will be held in the overflow parking lot of Ho-Chunk Gaming of Madison, on Millpond Rd directly adjacent to Badger Harley Davidson and the Magnuson Grand Hotel. Come out Thursday or Friday to witness the training, and/or come on Saturday to watch the skills competition of your very own MAPD Motor Officers on display that keep them safe everyday. The competition event on Saturday, August 9th will begin around 0900 and probably be done around 1500hrs.
This training is being hosted by the Badger Motor Officer's Association. The event is completely free!
