The Madison Police Department in partnership with Middle School U, a summer camp program for children grades 6-9 held a Cyber Detective Camp from August 13-17, 2012 at the West Police District.
The purpose of this summer camp is to allow students to become Cyber Detectives for a week. They are given a scenario and asked to perform a comprehensive investigation into the scenario, including interviews and forensic investigation.
Participants followed the clues as they learned about the good, the bad, and the ugly associated with various aspects
of cyber crime including social network sites (Facebook, MySpace), cell phones (texting, sexting, cyber-bullying), and internet access through websites, Xbox, PS3 and Wii.
This year's Cyber Detective Camp was a huge success. Several MPD officers and detectives graciously volunteered to assist with the camp. The department's Technology Committee looks forward to planning for Cyber Detective Camp 2013.
Next June make sure to watch for Cyber Camp enrollment information for middle school age youth.
