This Sunday, May 5, marks the third annual Mounted Patrol Open House - and this year, we're adding an exciting new event!
Get to know MPD's mounted unit members and horses and see the farm our horses call "home" during the Open House, hosted at the Horse First Farm at 5594 Alpine Road in Brooklyn, WI from 1 - 4 pmĀ (map from Madison to Horse First Farm). Horses and their officers will give a live demo and show visitors how the horses are trained and utilized in our work.
This year marks the first ever Madison Police Department Horse Badge Ceremony, celebrating three City of Madison Police horses for successfully completing their two year probationary status. Chief Noble Wray will present Jack, Luna, and Bubba with their official Madison Police badges in a special ceremony to honor the hard work and commitment that these horses and their handlers put forth in their work for the Department and the City of Madison, and to welcome them to the force as full "officers."
Visitors to the farm will also have the opportunity to meet Friends of Madison Mounted Horse Patrol and learn about getting involved in supporting this important part of our department's work and outreach.
The schedule of events is as follows:
- 1:15 pm: Guided Tour of the Facility
- 2:30 pm: Mounted Patrol Demo
- 3:00 pm: Badge Ceremony
- 3:30 pm: Guided Tour of the Facility
This event is a great way for the public service sector and the communities of the greater Madison area to get an up close and personal introduction to the mounted patrol unit. This event is rain or shine (held in a covered indoor arena) and is great for ALL equine lovers, family and friends!
