The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.
From 6:00 a.m. on 12/11/2019 through 6:00 a.m. on 12/12/2019, MPD 424 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (79), East (93), Midtown (72), North (54), South (44), West (65), and Other (17). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
EAST: Stolen Auto – 6:30 a.m. Officers responded to an East district residence for a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was left running and unoccupied in the driveway. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases. **The vehicle was located and returned to its owner.
CENTRAL: Theft – 7:44 a.m. Officers responded to a report of stolen dryer/copper wire from a construction site. Investigation continuing.
WEST: Battery – 8:39 a.m. Officers responded to Orchard Ridge Elementary School for a report of a battery of a school employee by a parent of a child that attends the school. The parent/suspect pulled the victim's hair and punched the victim in the face. The suspect was not on scene when officers arrived. Probable cause was developed to arrest the suspect, once located, for battery. Incident Report on MPD's website completed. **The suspect was arrested later in the day.
WEST: Robbery – 12:47 p.m. Officers responded to the Dane County Credit Union on Struck St for a report of a robbery. A male suspect entered the credit union, demanded cash and fled on foot. Incident Report on MPD's website completed.
EAST: Fraud – 2:34 p.m. Officers responded to a business on Thierer Road at the request of the employer to be present as they terminated an employee who had been defrauding their business.
EAST: Crash with Injuries – 5:32 p.m. Officers responded to Stoughton Rd/Pflaum Rd for a four-vehicle crash. Minor injuries reported.
WEST: Mental Health Conveyance – 6:03 p.m. Officers responded to Elver Park to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. The subject was contacted and agreed to go to a local hospital for an evaluation. The subject was left in the care of medical staff. Journey Mental Health notified.
CENTRAL: Mental Health Conveyance – 7:40 p.m. Officers responded to a Central district residence to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. The subject agreed to go to a local hospital for an evaluation. The subject was left in the care of medical staff.
CENTRAL: Check Person – 9:25 p.m. Officers responded to a request to check the welfare of an intoxicated subject who was armed with a knife and threatening to harm himself. The subject was not at home when officers arrived. K9 track conducted. Phone ping was not successful. Attempt to locate aired.
CENTRAL: Domestic Disturbance – 9:31 p.m. Officers responded to a Central district residence for a disturbance amongst roommates. The suspect (19-year-old male) took a bunch of pills and when his roommates/victims attempted to intervene to help, the suspect became physically aggressive. The suspect was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct, disorderly conduct, physical abuse to a child (roommate/victim is 17-years-old) and strangulation.
WEST: Domestic Disturbance – 10:10 p.m. Officers responded to a West district residence for a domestic disturbance between two subjects (male victim and 27-year-old female suspect). The suspect was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and bail jumping (three counts).
CITY-WIDE: Assist Law Enforcement – 4:00 a.m. MPD was requested to assist Columbia County to search/locate a missing 12-year-old juvenile. A MPD K9 team responded to assist. Columbia County has the lead on this investigation.
