The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.
From 6:00 a.m. on 03/02/2020 through 6:00 a.m. on 03/03/2020, MPD received 418 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (58), East (68), Midtown (88), North (66), South (52), West (67), and Other (19). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
03/02
NORTH: Adult Arrested Person – 5:43 a.m. Officers responded to Hoard St for a report of two men fighting. A suspect (23-year-old male) approached officers with pockets full of drug paraphernalia and he lied about his identity. The suspect was properly identified and found to have an outstanding warrant. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct while armed, obstructing and the warrant.
WEST: Reckless Driver – 7:00 a.m. Dispatch received multiple reports of reckless driving. Officers located the vehicle on city cameras. A passenger in the vehicle was observed to be armed. The vehicle was observed by officers but the vehicle/occupants fled at a high rate of speed. MPD did not pursue the vehicle.
NORTH: Adult Arrested Person – 9:37 a.m. Officers responded to N. Sherman Ave for a neighbor/suspect (51-year-old female) pounding on doors and causing a disturbance. The suspect threatened her neighbors. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct (two counts).
MIDTOWN: Assist EMS/Fire – 12:57 p.m. Officers, along with EMS/Fire, responded to a residence regarding a subject who self-inflicted hurting himself with a needle. The subject suffers from undiagnosed mental health concerns. The subject was conveyed to a local hospital.
NORTH: Crash with Injuries – 1:58 p.m. Officers responded to a crash near Ruskin St/Schlimgen Ave. The driver/suspect (33-year-old male) went through a stop sign at a high-rate of speed and crashed into another vehicle, occupied by two subjects. The suspect was found to be impaired. The victims sustained minor injuries. The suspect was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, felony probation hold and cited for a stop sign violation.
EAST: Suspicious Vehicle – 3:06 p.m. Officers responded to a parking lot on Atlas Court for a U-Haul that had not been returned and a realistic facsimile BB gun observed in the front seat. The vehicle was searched and drug paraphernalia was found. The renters/suspects (32-year-old male and 35-year-old female) of the U-Haul were contacted and arrested/charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
SOUTH: Domestic Disturbance – 3:18 p.m. Officers responded to a residence for a domestic disturbance between two subjects (female victim and 21-year-old male suspect). The suspect threatened the victim with a gun (although a gun was never observed/displayed). Officers attempted to contact the suspect, but he was not cooperative. Probable cause developed to charge the suspect with domestic disorderly conduct. Suspect remains at-large.
CENTRAL: Hit-and-Run – 4:34 p.m. Officers responded to John Nolen Drive for a hit-and-run crash. The victim observed numerous juveniles flee on foot from the suspect vehicle. Investigation continuing.
CENTRAL: Disturbance – 5:17 p.m. Officers responded to the library for a disturbance involving two male victims and a 24-year-old male suspect. The suspect approached the victims and displayed the knife in a threatening manner. The suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed (two counts).
CENTRAL: Information/Sexual Assault – 7:05 p.m. Officers met with a female victim who reported being sexually assaulted by an unknown male. Investigation continuing.
NORTH: Death Investigation – 8:10 p.m. Officers responded to a residence for a pulseless non-breathing subject (59-year-old female). Evidence of drug use observed on scene. The subject was pronounced deceased. Medical Examiner's office responded. Investigation continuing.
WEST: Stolen Vehicle – 8:14 p.m. A vehicle was stolen from the Princeton Club parking lot. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases.
EAST: Sexual Assault – 9:08 p.m. Officers met with a female victim who reported being sexually and physically assaulted by a known subject/suspect (31-year-old male). The suspect was not on scene when officers responded. Probable cause developed to arrest/charge the suspect with battery, false imprisonment, intimidation of a victim and 2nd degree sexual assault.
WEST: Armed Robbery – 9:48 p.m. Officers responded to Gloria's Mexican Restaurant on Junction Rd for a report of an armed robbery. Three suspects wearing masks entered the restaurant and ordered the staff to the ground. The suspects were armed. The suspects tied up the victims and took personal items from them. The suspects fled on foot. K9 track conducted. Incident Report on MPD's website completed. Investigation continuing.

NORTH: Death Investigation – 6:29 a.m. Officers responded to the 600 block of Woodward Drive after a body of an adult female was discovered on the side of the road. No visible signs of trauma observed. Medical Examiner's office responded. Autopsy pending. Incident Report on MPD's website completed. Investigation continuing.
NORTH: Death Investigation – 7:45 a.m. Officers responded to a residence for a pulseless non-breathing subject (81-year-old male). The subject was pronounced deceased. Nothing suspicious observed. Medical Examiner's office responded.
