The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.
From 6:00 a.m. on 08/27/2020 through 6:00 a.m. on 08/28/2020, MPD received 393 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (66), East (86), Midtown (69), North (71), South (28), West (56), and Other (17). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Priority calls only from 10:25am to 7:55pm and from 1:50am to 3:55am due to calls for service.

WEST: Residential Burglary – 7:49 am. The victims reported a vehicle was stolen from their garage along with a purse and car keys. Investigation continuing.
EAST: Check Person – 8:37 am. Officers attempted to contact a subject who was reportedly suicidal. The subject was not located.
SOUTH: Recovered Stolen Auto – 9:05 am. City of Madison officers assisted other law enforcement agencies in apprehending three suspects occupying a stolen vehicle. The two passengers (21- and 16-year-old males) were arrested and charged with resisting and OMVWOC passenger. The driver (16-year-old male) remains at large. Investigation continuing. Incident report completed on MPD website.
CENTRAL: Weapons Offense – 9:55 am. Multiple callers to dispatch reported hearing a shot fired in the area of S Paterson St and Williamson St. Officers checked the area but did not locate evidence of shots fired. There were no reports of damage to property or injuries.
WEST: Recovered Stolen Auto – 11:18 am. The victim reported he tracked his vehicle which was stolen earlier that morning out of Sun Prairie to the Sequoya branch library. He reported the vehicle was occupied at the time. Officers responded to the location, at which point the suspects (18- and 15-year-old males) fled in the vehicle. The vehicle was later located unoccupied near Northridge Ter. The suspects remain at large. Incident report completed on MPD website. Investigation continuing.
NORTH: Mental Health Conveyance – 2:25 pm. Officers initially contacted the subject (19-year-old female) when she reported she was suicidal and wished to go to the hospital. Officers transported the subject to a local hospital and were later notified that she needed to be placed under an emergency detention. The subject was transported to WMHI.
CENTRAL: Mental Health Conveyance – 2:36 pm. Officers responded to a residence where a subject (61-year-old female) was experiencing a mental health crisis. The subject was placed into protective custody and transported to WMHI.
MIDTOWN: Mental Health Conveyance – 5:40 pm. Journey Mental Health requested that officers respond to a local hospital to place a patient (65-year-old female) under an emergency detention. Officers placed the subject into protective custody and transported her to WMHI.
EAST: Check Person Weapon – 10:15 pm. Officers responded to a residence where a subject was reportedly intoxicated, suicidal and armed with a handgun. The subject was cooperative with officers and investigation revealed that the two residents in the home had been arguing but no weapon had been displayed. The two residents were separated for the evening. No further police action was deemed necessary.

NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 12:11 am. The victim reported that during an argument between her and the suspect (25-year-old male), the suspect strangled the victim, burned her with a torch and attempted to burn items in the home. The suspect at one point armed himself with a knife and attempted to cut his own throat. The victim intervened and sustained cuts to her hands. The suspect was arrested and charged with domestic battery, disorderly conduct while armed, strangulation and 1st degree recklessly endangering safety.
