The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.
From 6:00 a.m. on 05/06/2021 through 6:00 a.m. on 05/07/2021, MPD received 427 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (70), East (95), Midtown (81), North (71), South (35), West (43), and Other (32). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Priority calls only from 9:05am to 10:05am and from 1:10pm to 3:40pm due to calls for service.
05/06
EAST: Recovered Stolen Auto – 4:39 am. Dispatch received several calls regarding a vehicle stopped in traffic and the driver asleep behind the wheel at S Stoughton Rd and Buckeye Rd. Officers arrived on scene and determined the vehicle was stolen. The suspect (31-year-old male) was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent. (This was a late call that did not make the previous 24-hour cycle.)
EAST: Death Investigation – 7:59 am. The spouse of a subject (73-year-old female) discovered her deceased in their residence. Nothing suspicious on scene. Medical examiner responded.
NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 8:10 am. The victim reported that the suspect (33-year-old male) strangled her and threatened her with a knife. The suspect fled in a vehicle but was apprehended after police deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle. The suspect was charged with domestic strangulation, false imprisonment, intimidation of a victim, and attempted homicide related to the domestic disturbance, as well as eluding, possession of a firearm by a felon, and battery to a law enforcement animal. Incident report completed on MPD website.
MIDTOWN: Theft/Stolen Auto – 9:28 am. The victim reported an unidentified suspect stole her keys and wallet from Planet Fitness on Verona Rd. She then discovered her vehicle was stolen from the parking lot and her credit card used. The vehicle was listed as stolen and an ATL was aired. Investigation continuing.
MIDTOWN: Domestic Disturbance – 11:07 am. Officers responded to a residence where the suspect (21-year-old male) was damaging items in the home. Officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect and charge him with domestic disorderly conduct and damage to property. The suspect is at large.
MIDTOWN: Weapons Offense Shots Fired – 12:31 pm. The victim was traveling eastbound on the beltline near Gammon Rd when an unidentified driver/suspect fired several rounds from his vehicle into the victim's vehicle. Incident report completed on MPD website. Investigation continuing.
WEST: Mental Health Conveyance – 1:50 pm. A family member located a subject (33-year-old female) standing in the roadway near the intersection of Gammon Rd and Watts Rd. Officers responded and placed the subject into protective custody. The subject was admitted to a local hospital.
WEST: Information – 2:45 pm. Child Protective Services requested that officers respond to a local hospital where a child was being examined for possible injuries. Medical staff reported no concerns.
EAST: Recovered Stolen Auto – 3:31 pm. Officers observed a vehicle at N Marquette St and Sachs St which was listed as stolen. The suspect driver (38-year-old female) was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent.
CENTRAL: Threats Complaint – 6:53 pm. The suspect (46-year-old female) threatened a parking enforcement officer who attempted to discuss a parking violation. Officers developed probable cause to cite the suspect for disorderly conduct. Officers attempted contact with the suspect but were unsuccessful.
CENTRAL: Sexual Assault of a Child – 7:38 pm. The juvenile victim reported that an unknown adult male suspect made inappropriate sexual contact with her while she was at Yahara Place Park. Investigation continuing.
EAST: Child Abuse – 8:51 pm. Officers investigated a report of alleged abuse to a child. Child Protective Services was notified and a safety plan was enacted.
05/07
EAST: Threats Complaint – 1:02 am. The victim reported that during a phone conversation with the suspect (25-year-old male), who is the father of her children, the suspect threatened to kill the victim. Officers developed probable cause to charge the suspect with domestic disorderly conduct. The suspect is at large.
NORTH: Assist WI State Patrol – 3:46 am. Officers assisted with traffic control and scene preservation while State Patrol investigated a crash on interstate I90.
