The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.
From 6:00 a.m. on 08/23/2021 through 6:00 a.m. on 08/24/2021, MPD received 448 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (66),East (92), Midtown (66), North (66), South (48), West (84), and Other (26). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Priority calls only from 3:32 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. due to calls for service.
WEST: Disturbance – 8:31 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a female subject damaging a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the subject who was found to be damaging her own vehicle. No charges substantiated.
SOUTH: Domestic Disturbance – 8:37 a.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 43-year-old male suspect. The suspect was arrested/charged with domestic battery.
EAST: Mental Health Conveyance – 10:04 a.m. Officers received a request for a Chapter 51 return on a subject. Subject contacted and taken into protective custody. The subject was conveyed to a local hospital for a medical clearance. Subject admitted to a local hospital and left in the care of medical staff. Officers disengaged.
CENTRAL: Check Area – 10:05 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a male subject looking into a residence. Video evidence reviewed. Subject/suspect identified. Probable cause developed to arrest/charge the suspect once he is located.
WEST: Recovered/Stolen Vehicle – 10:51 a.m. An unoccupied stolen vehicle (from Fitchburg) was located/recovered on White Pine Trail.
SOUTH: Weapons Offense – 11:04 a.m. Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 2200 block of Luann Lane. An occupied apartment was struck by a bullet. No injuries reported at this time. Incident Report on MPD's website completed.
EAST: Check Person – 3:13 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a subject out of control and armed with a gun. Family members of the subject contacted. The subject was reported to be in a residence. Several attempts to contact the subject were made but ultimately a decision was made to walk away at this time.
EAST: Death Investigation – 4:54 p.m. Officers responded to a residence for a deceased subject (40-year-old male). Medical Examiner's office on scene. Nothing suspicious identified at this time.
EAST: Crash – 5:56 p.m. Officers responded to Cottage Grove Rd/Dempsey Rd for a vehicle vs. bicycle crash. The driver (17-year-old female) fled the scene after striking the bicyclist. Witnesses provided information that led to the driver who initially lied to officers. The driver was cited for hit-and-run involving injury.
WEST: Domestic Disturbance – 6:19 p.m. Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 19-year-old male suspect. The suspect was not on scene when officers arrived. Probable cause developed to arrest/charge the suspect once he is located.
EAST: Domestic Disturbance – 8:25 p.m. Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 18-year-old male suspect. The suspect was arrested/charged with domestic battery and domestic disorderly conduct.
EAST: Check Property – 9:40 p.m. Officers responded to the 2700 block of Union St for a report of shots fired. Area canvassed. No evidence of shots fired at this time.
SOUTH: Adult Arrested Person – 10:20 p.m. A 34-year-old male subject/suspect was taken into custody on an extraditable warrant out of Georgia.
EAST: Check Person – 10:27 p.m. Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. The subject was taken into protective custody and conveyed to a local hospital for an evaluation. Journey Mental Health consulted. The subject was subsequently transported to Detox.
NORTH: Check Person – 11:14 p.m. Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. The subject was contacted, placed into protective custody and conveyed to a local hospital for an evaluation. The subject was voluntarily admitted and left in the care of medical staff.

NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 12:43 a.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 30-year-old female suspect. The suspect was arrested/charged with domestic battery (2 counts) and bail jumping.
EAST: Missing/Runaway Juvenile – 2:39 a.m. A 16-year-old male was reported as missing/runaway. Attempt to locate aired. The juvenile was listed as missing/runaway in the appropriate databases.
