The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.
From 6:00 a.m. on 01/10/2022 through 6:00 a.m. on 01/11/2022, MPD received 321 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (50),East (77), Midtown (50), North (55), South (26), West (41), and Other (22). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

WEST: Check Person – 9:14 a.m. Officers responded to a residence to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. The subject was contacted and conveyed to a local hospital for an evaluation. Journey Mental Health consulted. The subject was voluntarily admitted and officers disengaged.
SOUTH: Death Investigation – 10:43 a.m. Officers responded to a residence for a deceased subject (67-year-old male). Medical Examiner's office on scene. Decedent had a history of medical/mental health concerns. Nothing suspicious identified.
EAST: Death Investigation – 11:52 a.m. Officers responded to a residence for a deceased subject (58-year-old male). Medical Examiner's office on scene. Decedent had health/medical concerns. Nothing suspicious identified.
MIDTOWN: Mental Health Conveyance – 12:12 p.m. Officers responded to a local hospital for a subject in need of an emergency detention. Journey Mental Health plugged in. Final outcome pending.
EAST: Sexual Assault – 3:17 p.m. A victim reported being sexually assaulted by a known suspect (61-year-old male). The suspect was given an order-in for fourth degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct.
EAST: Attempt to Locate – 4:00 p.m. Officers received a request to locate a subject who was in need of being placed into protective custody. Subject contacted and conveyed to a local hospital.
MIDTOWN: Adult Arrested Person – 5:00 p.m. Officers met Janesville PD to take custody of a wanted subject/suspect (36-year-old male). The suspect was booked into jail for bail jumping (5 counts) and forgery/uttering (3 counts).
WEST: Domestic Disturbance – 5:25 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 17-year-old male suspect. The suspect was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct.
CITY-WIDE: Assist Law Enforcement – 5:36 p.m. Officers assisted Deforest PD with a mutual aid request.
EAST: Retail Theft – 7:05 p.m. Officers responded to an active retail theft. The suspect (57-year-old male) attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers. The suspect was arrested for felony retail theft, resisting, felony bail jumping (4 counts) and misdemeanor bail jumping (4 counts).
NORTH: Crash – 9:41 p.m. A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed lost control and struck a light pole and flipped over. Witnesses observed the driver leave the area on foot. Investigation continuing.
NORTH: Armed Robbery – 10:28 p.m. Officers responded to a convenience store on N. Sherman Ave for an armed robbery. Suspect showed a gun to the clerk and stole cash. Incident Report on MPD's website completed. Investigation continuing.
EAST: Check Person – 11:16 p.m. Officers responded to hotel for a report of a fire. MFD also responded. Smoke observed. The subject who rented the room was not on scene. Subject with Columbia County Sheriff's Office and determined that the incident at the hotel was a suicide attempt. Columbia County seeking emergency detention for the subject. Charges may be forthcoming.
CENTRAL: Assist Law Enforcement – 11:22 p.m. Maple Bluff PD attempted to stop a vehicle and it fled. The vehicle crashed and the occupants fled on foot. MPD responded to assist with a K9 search for the occupants.

CENTRAL: Battery – 1:53 a.m. A victim reported being physically assaulted by a male suspect she met at an establishment. The victim sustained visible injuries. The suspect was not on scene when officers arrived.
