The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last twenty-four (24) hours. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
From 6:00 a.m. on 05/01/2023 through 6:00 a.m. on 05/02/2023, MPD received 389 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (67),East (70), Midtown (78), North (70), South (35), West (53), and Other (16). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
05/01
Priority calls only from 12:23 p.m. to 3:11 p.m. due to calls for service.
EAST: Recovered Stolen Auto – 4:20 a.m. Occupants in a suspicious vehicle were contacted in a parking lot. The driver was not cooperative with officers and refused to identify himself. A vin check showed the vehicle was stolen out of Illinois. A search of the vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia and possible evidence of a retail theft. Both subjects in the vehicle were arrested (charges not known at the time of this writing).
EAST: Domestic Disturbance – 10:22 a.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 30-year-old male subject (not on scene when officers arrived). Probable cause developed to arrest the subject once he is located.
MIDTOWN: Domestic Disturbance – 10:55 a.m. A victim reported a domestic disturbance. Investigation continuing.
EAST: Stolen Auto – 12:04 p.m. A vehicle was reported stolen. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases.
NORTH: Disturbance – 12:20 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 27-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed and carrying a concealed weapon.
NORTH: Disturbance – 1:19 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a subject who had been stabbed. A subject was located with a laceration which required stitches. A 32-year-old female subject was arrested for reckless endangering safety.
NORTH: Death Investigation – 4:35 p.m. Officers responded to a residence for a deceased subject (69-year-old female). Medical Examiner's office responded. Nothing suspicious identified at this time.
NORTH: Check Person – 5:09 p.m. Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject who stated he ingested anti-freeze. CARES and MFD/EMS also responded. The subject was conveyed to a local hospital and voluntarily admitted. Officers disengaged. Officers were called back to conduct an emergency detention evaluation. No grounds for an emergency detection after consultation with Journey Mental Health. Officers disengaged again.
CENTRAL: Threats Complaint – 5:41 p.m. A subject reported receiving threats. Investigation continuing.
NORTH: Missing/Runaway Juvenile – 7:48 p.m. A 10-year-old female was reported as missing/runaway. Attempt to locate aired. The juvenile was listed as missing/runaway in the appropriate databases.
SOUTH: Domestic Disturbance – 9:47 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance. A 24-year-old female subject was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct. Probable cause was developed to arrest a 50-year-old male subject once he is located.
NORTH: Adult Arrested Person – 9:54 p.m. A traffic stop was conducted and the passenger/subject (44-year-old male) provided false identification. The subject was found to have outstanding warrants. The subject was arrested for obstructing, carrying a concealed weapon and numerous outstanding warrants.

CENTRAL: Adult Arrested Person – 12:27 a.m. Officers observed a hand-to-hand exchange and conducted a traffic stop. A 31-year-old male subject was arrested on outstanding probable cause and felony bail jumping.
NORTH: Traffic Arrest – 12:31 a.m. A traffic stop was conducted and a passenger (22-year-old male) attempted to flee on foot. The passenger was apprehended. The driver (51-year-old male) fled from the traffic stop in the vehicle. The vehicle was located unoccupied. Areas searched. Driver not located. Probable cause developed to arrest the driver once he is located. The passenger was arrested for resisting, felony bail jumping, misdemeanor bail jumping and possession of cocaine.
MIDTOWN: Adult Arrested Person – 12:35 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a female screaming. No disturbances or issues located. A 36-year-old female was identified and found to have an outstanding warrant. The subject resisted. The subject was arrested for resisting, theft, felon in possession of a concealed knife, an outstanding warrant, misdemeanor bail jumping (2 counts) and felony bail jumping (8 counts).
EAST: Death Investigation – 12:43 a.m. Officers responded to an assist ambulance call that turned into a deceased subject (62-year-old male) call. Evidence of drug use observed. Nothing suspicious identified.
EAST: Attempted Homicide – 1:57 a.m. Officers were notified that a 15-year-old male had been dropped off at UW Health East Madison with a gunshot wound(s). Officers made brief contact with the victim before he was transferred to another hospital via med flight. The victim is currently in stable condition. Incident Report released on MPD's website. Investigation continuing.
MIDTOWN: Non-Residential Burglary – 2:47 a.m. Officers responded to a business in the 1900 block of Monroe St for two burglary alarms. Forced entry located. Investigation continuing.
