The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last twenty-four (24) hours. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
From 6:00 a.m. on 08/31/2023 through 6:00 a.m. on 09/01/2023, MPD received 442 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (93), East (89), Midtown (69), North (77), South (43), West (56), and Other (15). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

MIDTOWN: Adult Arrested Person – 3:41 am. Officers contacted a 36-year-old male suspect at a local hospital and learned he had a warrant. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to jail. (This was a late call that did not make the previous 24-hour cycle.)
NORTH: Armed Robbery – 9:44 am. Officers responded to a gas station where an unidentified suspect struck the victim with a crowbar and took his keys. Investigation continuing.
NORTH: Death Investigation – 11:03 am. Officers responded to the area of Eastpark Blvd and American Pkwy where a body in an advanced state of decomposition was found hanging from a tree in an apparent suicide. Investigation continuing.
NORTH: Damage to Property – 1:00 pm. Staff at Sandburg Elementary School reported that the 42-year-old male suspect had been firing a BB gun for several days at the school and had damaged windows and screens on the school building. The suspect was arrested for damage to property and discharging a weapon in city limits.
EAST: Domestic Disturbance – 4:10 pm. Officers made contact with a young couple at a bus stop where the woman was crying. The 18-year-old male lied about his identity. Once officers were able to positively identify him, he was arrested for obstructing and for many warrants.
MIDTOWN: Residential Burglary – 4:42 pm. The 59-year-old male suspect broke into the locked front porch of a residence and attempted to steal a bicycle. The suspect was located at a nearby park and arrested for damage to property, burglary and possession of burglarious tools.

WEST: Check Person – 1:36 am. Officers contacted a woman who reported she was feeling suicidal. She was placed into protective custody and conveyed to a hospital.
MIDTOWN: Disturbance – 2:43 am. Officers responded to a residence where during an argument, the 57-year-old female suspect armed herself with a knife and demanded money from the victim. The suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed and false imprisonment.
