City-Wide Notable Calls 12/08/2023 to 12/11/2023

The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last twenty-four (24) hours. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

From 6:00 a.m. on 12/08/2023 through 6:00 a.m. on 12/11/2023, MPD received 1,044 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (211), East (194), Midtown (173), North (161), South (118), West (166), and Other (21). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.


12/08
NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 5:56 am. Officers responded to a residence where during an argument, the 26-year-old female suspect threatened the victim with a knife. The suspect was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct while armed.

WEST: Disturbance – 7:12 am. Officers responded to a residence where the 36-year-old female suspect damaged a TV and strangled a caretaker. Officers consulted with Journey Mental Health. The suspect was arrested and charged with damage to property, disorderly conduct and strangulation.

EAST: Assist Police – 8:25 am. Officers assisted US Marshals with the transport of two suspects to the Dane County jail.

EAST: Death Investigation – 1:30 pm. Coworkers found a 69-year-old man down and called 911. MFD paramedics performed life saving measures but were unsuccessful. Nothing suspicious on scene.

WEST: Domestic Disturbance – 2:35 pm. Officers responded to a residence where the 28-year-old male suspect strangled the victim and threatened her during an argument. Officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect for domestic disorderly conduct and strangulation. Suspect is at large.

WEST: Check Person – 3:24 pm. Officers responded to a residence for a woman who was reportedly suicidal and had engaged in self harm. The subject was transported to the hospital and left in the care of medical staff. Officers consulted with Journey Mental Health.

MIDTOWN: Probation/Parole – 4:17 pm. Officers responded to a corrections facility and placed a 27-year-old male suspect into custody for a parole hold. He was transported to the jail without incident.?

SOUTH: Adult Arrested Person – 7:23 pm. Probation and Parole requested that officers take a suspect into custody for his warrants. The 54-year-old male suspect became combative with officers and was newly charged with resisting causing injury before being conveyed to jail.

NORTH: OMVWI – 7:47 pm. Officers responded to the 2400 block of Hoard St for a vehicle crash. The 69-year-old male driver was cited for OWI 1st.

NORTH: Mental Health Conveyance – 9:57 pm. Journey Mental Health requested that officers assist with an emergency detention. Officers placed the woman into protective custody and transported her to a local hospital.

CENTRAL: Disturbance – 11:39 pm. Officers responded to the Orpheum where the 33-year-old female suspect was ejected from a show. The suspect was charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing.

Priority calls only from 2:16 pm to 4:19 pm due to calls for service.

CENTRAL: Adult Arrested Person – 2:10 am. Officers observed a firearm in an unoccupied vehicle in the Buckeye Lot, 217 W Gilman St. Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. The owner of the firearm (26-year-old male) was arrested and charged with possession of firearm contrary to injunction, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine, possession of fentanyl, and several counts of bail jumping.

EAST: Sexual Assault – 11:15 am. Officers investigated a report of a sexual assault. Investigation continuing.

EAST: Check Property – 12:01 pm. A caller reported hearing gunfire near his home. Officers checked the area but did not locate any evidence of shots fired, property damage or injured persons.

EAST: Domestic Disturbance – 12:27 pm. Officers responded after a man struck and pushed two women. The women left their home before officers arrived. The 48-year-old suspect was also not home when officers responded. Probable cause developed to arrest the suspect for domestic disorderly conduct, domestic battery and false imprisonment.

SOUTH: Death Investigation – 12:30 pm. Family called after not hearing from a man for several weeks. Man located deceased inside his home. Nothing suspicious on scene.

CENTRAL: Special Event – 2:16 pm. Around a thousand people marched downtown during a demonstration.

CENTRAL: Battery – 3:30 pm. A man was attacking a woman outside of a grocery store on E. Washington Ave. Officers located the 59-year-old male suspect nearby. He resisted arrest and a sergeant was injured during the struggle. The suspect was arrested for battery and strangulation, resisting arrest causing injury and intimidation of a victim.

EAST: Accident Property Damage – 7:20 pm. Some of MPD's newest officers were learning how to use a department lot gate when a man drove through the gate. The man struck a K9 squad car. Only the K9 was inside the vehicle. The dog is OK and there was minor damage to the squad car.

NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 10:03 pm. Officers responded after a man physically attacked a woman. Probable cause developed to arrest the 35-year-old male suspect with domestic disorderly conduct while armed, theft and battery.

EAST: Disturbance – 12:02 am. Officers responded to a business parking lot where a woman was reportedly suicidal. Officers assisted in getting the woman medical care.

EAST: Disturbance – 1:43 am. Officers responded to a business after a man threatened to beat up another man. A 29-year-old male suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct.

WEST: Animal at Large – 6:06 am. Two horses were spotted wandering around a neighborhood. The horses had escaped from a nearby stable. Officers were able to corral the horses without incident.

EAST: Check Person – 10:34 am. Officers dispatched to check on the welfare of a 46-year-old man. Man not found at his home.

NORTH: Adult Arrested Person – 12:08 pm. A 43-year-old suspect was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

MIDTOWN: Disturbance – 12:19 pm. Officers responded to a hospital after a man threatened hospital security and kicked several doors inside the facility. Journey Mental Health was consulted and the 40-year-old woman was arrested for threats to a healthcare worker and disorderly conduct.

WEST: Domestic Disturbance – 2:35 pm. Man choked and threatened a woman at an apartment before leaving the area. Probable cause developed to arrest the 28-year-old male suspect for disorderly conduct and strangulation.

EAST: Disturbance – 2:58 pm. Officers responded to a disturbance inside the food court at East Towne Mall. The suspect became aggressive and hit mall security employees. The 31-year-old suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct, trespassing and battery.

SOUTH: Missing Juvenile/Runaway – 3:06 pm. Caller called to report a missing 17-year-old.

WEST: Weapons Offense – 5:37 pm. Man called to report he had been stabbed at a home following an argument and was headed to the hospital. Officers respond to the hospital and the man's address. During the investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest the man for disorderly conduct and battery.

MIDTOWN: Child Abuse – 8:38 pm. A vehicle tries to evade officers. A man inside the vehicle was arrested for outstanding retail theft. Suspect arrested for domestic disorderly conduct, domestic battery and physical abuse to a child.

WEST: Residential Burglary – 8:58 pm. A house was ransacked during a burglary. Victims reported having cash and jewelry stolen from their New Washburn Way home.

CENTRAL: Adult Arrested Person – 12:47 am. A woman and child were struck during a domestic incident.

MIDTOWN: Child Abuse – 8:38 pm. A vehicle tries to evade officers. A man inside the vehicle was arrested for outstanding retail theft. Suspect arrested for domestic disorderly conduct, domestic battery and physical abuse.
