The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last twenty-four (24) hours. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
From 6:00 a.m. on 07/04/2024 through 6:00 a.m. on 07/05/2024, MPD received 481 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (85), East (105), Midtown (65), North (89), South (57), West (71), and Other (9). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Priority calls only from 11:05am to 3:10pm and from 7:55pm to 11:00pm due to calls for service.
07/04
WEST: Death Investigation – 4:29 am. Officers responded to a residence where a 3 month old child was not breathing and did not have a pulse. The child was transported to a hospital where the child was pronounced deceased. Investigation continuing.
NORTH: Traffic Crash – 4:30 am. Officers responded to Packers Ave at Tennyson Ln where a car crashed into a tree and two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. One occupant of the vehicle was pinned inside and succumbed to his injuries. A 22-year-old male suspect and 19-year-old female suspect were arrested and charged with OMVWOC and resisting.
EAST: Disturbance – 4:56 am. Officers responded to a residence where several subjects were arguing about money. Officers received conflicting statements from parties on scene and were unable to develop probable cause for any arrests.
EAST: Missing Adult – 8:13 am. Officers took a report of a missing 18-year-old man. The man was listed as missing and an ATL was aired.
MIDTOWN: Armed Robbery – 9:28 am. A caller to dispatch reported he was robbed by an unidentified suspect who was armed with a knife. Investigation continuing.
EAST: Assist Police – 12:00 noon: Officers assisted with maintaining a perimeter around a hotel where a city of Columbus homicide suspect was believed to be located. Columbus PD took the suspect into custody.
WEST: Child Abuse – 12:45 pm. Officers responded to a residence for a report of a domestic disturbance. A female juvenile attempted to intervene in the argument and the 30-year-old male suspect grabbed the girl and threw her to the ground. The suspect was arrested for child abuse. CPS was notified.
CENTRAL: Adult Arrested Person – 3:54 pm. Officers responded to Target for a 45-year-old male suspect who was at the store despite being banned from the premises. Officers apprehended the suspect in the 200 block of State St. The suspect was arrested and charged with battery to LE, resisting and trespass.
EAST: Disturbance – 8:14 pm. Officers responded to the Mobil gas station for a report of a fight. Officers contacted a man and woman involved in an argument. No charges were substantiated.
CENTRAL: Check Person – 8:53 pm. Officers responded to a residence for a man who was reportedly suicidal. Officers determined the man was not suicidal and that he had been arguing with his wife. No charges were substantiated.
WEST: Check Property – 9:21 pm. Officers responded to Elver Park for a report of a fight. Officers discovered roughly 500 people lighting off fireworks. Officers directed traffic to assist the flow of a large number of vehicles leaving the area. Incident report completed on MPD website.
WEST: Arson – 10:33 pm. A victim reported she discovered some burned material that smelled like lighter fluid on her porch. The victim reported this is the third in a series of similar incidents. Investigation continuing.

SOUTH: Domestic Disturbance – 12:30 am. Officers responded to a residence where the 37-year-old male suspect and victim were arguing. Officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect for domestic disorderly conduct and battery. Suspect is at large.
