The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to from Friday morning to Monday morning. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

From 6:00 a.m. on 7/19/2024 through 6:00 a.m. on 7/22/2024, MPD received 1,316 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (262),East (230), Midtown (214), North (234), South (165), West (172), and Other (39). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Priority calls only from 12:52pm to 2:58pm due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 4:16pm to 6:20pm due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 11:42pm to 12:33am due to calls for service.

North/Weapons Offense – 12pm: Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1300 block of Carpenter St. An unoccupied vehicle was located with damage caused by bullets. The vehicle struck a building. No reported injuries. Incident Report on MPD's website completed. Investigation continuing.

Midtown/Adult Arrested Person – 5:15pm: A 48-year-old male subject, with an outstanding warrant, was taken into custody and booked into jail.

North/Runaway Juvenile – 11:24pm: A 15-year-old female was reported as a runaway. Attempt to locate aired. The subject was listed as a runaway in the appropriate databases.

 

North/Disturbance – 11:39pm: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 36-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for false imprisonment, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct while armed and numerous felony bail jumping charges.

East/Check Area – 12:57am: Officers responded to a report of shots fired (N. Walbridge Ave/Bruns Ave). Areas checked. No evidence of shots fired located at this time.

Central/Adult Arrested Person – 3:19am: Officers responded to a construction site for a report of a subject (42-year-old male) trespassing. The subject was arrested for entry onto a construction site.  

South/Check Person – 6:06am: A victim reported waking up and having unexplained injuries. Investigation continuing.

East/Check Area – 6:12am: Officers responded to a report of shots fired (Worthington Ave/Rethke Ave) with a vehicle speeding away. Casings located/recovered. Residence struck by gunfire. No reported injuries. Investigation continuing.

North/Preserve the Peace – 6:54am: Officers responded to a preserve the peace call which turned into a disturbance being reported and charges developed for a 55-year-old male subject. Attempts made to make contact with the subject were unsuccessful. Decision made to disengage. Charges outstanding for the subject. *The subject was later taken into custody and arrested for domestic strangulation, domestic intimidation of a victim, domestic battery (2 counts), domestic disorderly conduct, and felony bail jumping (3 counts).

Midtown/Non-Residential Burglary – 8:51am: Officers responded to a business whose exterior doors were found to have been forced open. Nothing reported to be missing at this time. Investigation continuing.

Central/Adult Arrested Person – 10:27am: A 34-year-old male subject was identified as damaging police squads. Officers located the subject and arrested him for criminal damage to property (2 counts).

West/Death Investigation – 4:08pm: Officers responded to a report of a down subject (73-year-old female). Lifesaving measures attempted but not successful. Decedent had a history of health/medical concerns. Medical Examiner's office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.

West/Adult Arrested Person – 5:53pm: A 21-year-old male subject was arrested for felony bail jumping (2 counts), obstructing and possession of drug paraphernalia.

East/Retail Theft – 6:01pm: Officers responded to a retail theft involving 4 subjects. The subjects were detained by officers. A 32-year-old male subject was arrested for misdemeanor retail theft (3 counts), possession of meth and a probation hold.  The 3 other subjects (30-year-old male, 19-year-old female, and 23-year-old male) were cited/released for retail theft (party to a crime).

South/Domestic Disturbance – 8:15pm: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 41-year-old male subject. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject, who remains at-large.

Priority calls only from 3:15pm to 5:30pm due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 7:36pm to 9:01pm due to calls for service.

East/Check Person – 12:12am: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. The subject was contacted and conveyed to a local hospital. Emergency detention sought/approved. Local placement secured.

North/Domestic Disturbance – 1:20am: Officers observed a disturbance involving a 23-year-old male subject. The subject attempted to flee but was apprehended. The subject was arrested for domestic battery, domestic disorderly conduct, resisting, and felony bail jumping.  

Midtown/Check Person – 7:01am: Officers responded to a report of a possible suicidal subject with a knife. The subject was transported to a local hospital where they were admitted. Emergency detention may be sought if necessary. Officers disengaged for now.

South/Crash – 8:21am: Officers responded to an injury crash (Rimrock Rd/Beltline). A 47-year-old female driver was cited for failure to obey red signal.  Minor injuries sustained.

East/Mental Health Conveyance – 12:58pm: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital. An emergency detention was sought/approved. Transport to Winnebago completed by a third-party transport.

West/Death Investigation – 1:43pm: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject (66-year-old female). Subject located deceased. Medical Examiner's office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.

Central/Adult Arrested Person – 2:41pm: Officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a 42-year-old female subject. The subject was not cooperative with officers. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting, and discharge of bodily fluids.

Central/Disorderly Conduct – 2:59pm: While officers were on another call, a 20-year-old male subject launched a firework at another subject on State St. The subject was contacted by officers and was not cooperative. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting causing soft tissue injury.

North/Sexual Assault – 4:17pm: Officers responded to a report of a sexual assault. Both subjects contacted. Investigation continuing. *No charges substantiated.

East/Sexual Assault – 9:09pm: Officers responded to check the welfare of a subject. The subject was contacted, found to be intoxicated, and reported being sexually assaulted. The subject was transported to a local hospital. Investigation continuing.

Central/Fight Call – 11:15pm: Officers responded to a fight near University Ave/W. Gilman St. A 58-year-old male subject and a 57-year-old female subject were arrested for disorderly conduct while armed (party to a crime).

City-Wide/Sexual Assault – 12:56am: Officers responded to a report of a sexual assault involving a 25-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for 4th degree sexual assault (2 counts) and disorderly conduct.
