The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to from Friday morning to Monday morning. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
From 6:00 a.m. on 10/11/2024 through 6:00 a.m. on 10/14/2024, MPD received 1,165 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (258),East (222), Midtown (188), North (200), South (110), West (163), and Other (24). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

North/Adult Arrested Person – 3:47am: Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated driver. Dane County Sherrif's office made contact with the driver. A disturbance was identified to have occurred. A 40-year-old male subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (1st offense) and domestic disorderly conduct.
East/Stolen Auto – 9:54am: A vehicle was reported stolen. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases.
Midtown/Intoxicated Driver – 10:13am: Officers responded to a crash involving an intoxicated driver (36-year-old male). The driver was transported to a local hospital due to his intoxicated level. The driver was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (1st offense).
East/Assist Law Enforcement – 11:15am: Officers assisted Stoughton PD and DCI related to a kidnapping that occurred in Stoughton. Officers checked two addresses in Madison and located the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.
Midtown/Mental Health Conveyance – 11:55am: Officers responded to a local hospital for a subject in need of an emergency detention. Subject was placed locally.
Midtown/Check Person – 6pm: Officers received a request to check on the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. Contact was made with a 42-year-old female subject. Journey Mental Health consulted. An emergency detention was not supported. The subject resisted and spit at officers. The subject was conveyed to jail to post on a resisting citation.
Midtown/Death Investigation – 8:51pm: Officers responded to a report of a deceased subject (89-year-old female). Nothing suspicious identified.

East/Sexual Assault of a Child – 12:38am: Officers received a report of sexual assault of a child. Child Protective Services contacted. Safety planning completed.
North/Domestic Disturbance – 12:56am: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 31-year-old male subject. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject, who remains at-large.
East/Check Person – 2:59am: Officers responded to a local motel to check on the welfare of a subject who was described as being in distress. Subject contacted and found to have injuries. The subject reported being a victim of human trafficking. MPD assisted with initial statements and evidence collection to assist other agencies who will be taking the lead on this investigation.
North/Check Area – 3:15am: Officers responded to several callers reporting shots fired in the area of Vera Ct/Northport Dr area. Areas checked. No evidence of shots fired located at this time.
South/Domestic Disturbance – 7:56am: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 38-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for domestic battery and domestic disorderly conduct.
Midtown/Crash – 9:58am: Officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash with injuries (Junction Rd/Mineral Point Rd). Minor injuries sustained. A 34-year-old male driver was cited for red signal violation, inattentive driving, and expired registration.
North/Check Person – 11:56am: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject yelling at staff and guests at a hotel. A subject was contacted and detained. The subject was transported to a local hospital where an emergency detention was sought/approved. The subject was turned over to a third-party transport agency for placement. Criminal charges for domestic-related charges also forthcoming.
West/Stolen Auto – 2:16pm: Officers responded to a report of a vehicle vs. tree crash. Witnesses reported that 4-5 occupants fled the area. The vehicle came back as stolen. Areas checked for the subjects, who were not located.
Midtown/Disturbance – 5:16pm: Officers responded to a disturbance. A subject was transported to a local hospital where an emergency detention was sought/approved. The subject was transported to Winnebago.
Central/Armed Robbery – 9:45pm: Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a business in the 400 block of State Street. Investigation continuing.
East/Check Area – 10:49pm: Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of Swanton Rd/N. Thompson Drive. Casings located. A building was struck by gunfire. No injuries reported at this time. Investigation continuing.

South/Death Investigation – 1:08am: Officers responded to a residence for a deceased subject (60-year-old female). Medical Examiner's office responded.
Central/Check Person – 2:02am: A subject was transported to a local hospital where an emergency detention was sought. Final outcome pending. *Emergency detention support and the subject was placed locally.
Central/Intoxicated Driver – 7:05am: Officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the Yahara River. The vehicle was checked and no one was inside. A 22-year-old male subject was identified, contacted, and cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. He also received citations for failure to maintain control and failure to report an accident.
Central/Check Person – 7:16am: Officers responded to a report of a subject screaming in the middle of the street about killing himself and others. The 38-year-old male subject was contacted and found to have a probation/parole hold. Journey Mental Health consulted. An emergency detention was not supported. The subject was arrested on the probation hold and for possession stolen property.
East/Check Person – 8:39am: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject. Entry made to the residence and the subject was located down with fall-related injuries. The subject was transported to a local hospital.
West/Sexual Assault – 10:56am: Officers responded to a sexual assault report. Investigation continuing.
West/Adult Arrested Person – 3:21pm: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 38-year-old female subject. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and a probation hold.
East/Adult Arrested Person – 3:49pm: Officers responded to a report of a retail theft in progress. A 21-year-old female subject was arrested for retail theft, bail jumping, and a probation/parole hold. A 29-year-old male subject was arrested for retail theft and obstructing.
Midtown/Adult Arrested Person – 4:15pm: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 21-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for substantial battery, disorderly conduct, and bail jumping.
North/Stolen Auto – 4:59pm: A vehicle was reported stolen. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases.
South/Check Area – 5:34pm: Officers responded to reports of shots fired on Fiedler Lane. No evidence of shots fired located at this time.
Central/Adult Arrested Person – 7:12pm: Officers responded to a drug rip where a 49-year-old male subject displayed a meat cleaver. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed.
West/Trespassing – 9:36pm: A 45-year-old male subject was arrested for trespassing.
Central/Trespassing – 10:43pm: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 19-year-old female subject. The subject was arrested for trespassing.
