An incredibly informative conference and expo is scheduled to take place in Madison in September that our Department wants you to know about! The 2014 Dane County/Wisconsin State Triad Crime Prevention and Safety Conference and Expo is taking place on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 8am-4pm at the American Family Insurance Training Center (6000 American Parkway in Madison).
The Triad program was developed by RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) which is a national volunteer program created under the Administration of Aging as part of the Older Americans Act. RSVP was established in 1969 and in 1972 Wisconsin's RSVP program started. RSVP has become the largest volunteer program for adults age 55+. They have almost 300,000 volunteers across the country, with 2,000 volunteers right here in Dane County.
The Triad program is just one of RSVP's programs that they offer. Triad's mission is to promote crime prevention and safety for seniors. Every year, law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, senior volunteers, senior centers and agencies across the county come together to join committees in order to plan seminars, programs and expos.
The break-out sessions at this year's Triad Conference include topics on:
- Aging in Place
- Crime Stoppers
- Older Adult Bullying
- Elder Abuse by Power of Attorney
- Identity Theft/Social Networking
- Anatomy of a 911 call
- 2014 Drug Threats
- Protect Yourself from Fraud
- Self Defense Tips & Awareness
- Safe Driving, "Keeping the Keys"
- Understanding and Addressing Depression in Older Adults
- Starting or Restarting a Triad Program
This conference is an excellent way for seniors, aging network personnel, law enforcement and the general public to obtain informative information and resources all in one place.
