Apply Now! The deadline to accept applications for the 2015 Pre-Service Academy is November 3, 2014!
The Madison Police Department is nationally recognized for innovation and leadership. Our Department is at the forefront of "trust-based" community policing, problem solving and quality improvement. We are an organization "where individuals CAN and DO make a difference."
We are actively recruiting potential applicants and Recruiting Coordinator, Sergeant Tim Patton, has been hitting the trail searching for qualified candidates. Between September 1st and October 31st, MPD personnel will have conducted informational sessions/on-site testing in 30 cities covering six different states. In addition to this, MPD representatives will have attended 13 separate career fairs.
Why is all of this recruiting necessary? It's simple – we want to recruit applicants who can communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. We need individuals who can enforce the law, while protecting the constitutional rights of all. We are seeking committed individuals who want to work with a multi-cultural citizenry in improving our quality of life.
We are looking for women and men who reflect the diversity of our community. Successful MPD applicants usually have educational and/or life experiences possessed by mature individuals. New training classes commonly include a number of individuals who are changing careers. The profile of a "typical" candidate hired by MPD is someone who has at least an associate's degree (60 college credits) and most possess a bachelor's degree. The typical age range is from 22-45, but we have no upper age limit. Previous applicants have had experience that included work in teaching, social work, business, law enforcement and a variety of other professions. We are by no means a "one size fits all" employer and value the diversity of all academic, work and life experience(s).
If this sounds like you, please submit your application no later than November 3rd. You can visit our website at http://www.cityofmadison.com/police/jointeam/ which gives you a step-by-step process on our hiring process; including all the paperwork that you will need to submit. Please also feel free to contact Sergeant Tim Patton at (608) 266-4379. Please leave your name, area code and phone number on voice-mail and you will get a return call at his earliest convenience.
