You have the option of taking the written test at one of the above locations. If you opt to take an off-site venue exam, no prior registration is necessary, you need not have a completed application on file and there are no fees involved! Simply bring along a form of photo identification.
The test is a multiple choice, English vocabulary and reading comprehension assessment. A "pass/fail" written essay topic is also assigned to gauge a candidate's writing skills. TWO ESSAYS WILL BE GIVEN AT THE WRITTEN EXAM AND THESE TOPICS SHOULD BE REVIEWED PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. (See Written Test Explanation for more details.) We strive to give feedback within 7-10 business days.
If you choose to take the test in Madison, submit your application and you will be mailed notification of your scheduled test date and time. Those who take the written test at off-site venues will ultimately have to undergo additional testing in Madison. Candidates who test in Madison will be administered a written and physical agility assessment on the same date!
Any questions regarding these tests should be directed to the Madison Police Department at (608) 266-4190. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE UNIVERSITIES WITH QUESTIONS.
NOTE: Be advised that those who submit an application (in advance) to MPD can be scheduled for BOTH written AND physical agility assessments, in Madison, on the same day. (These assessments are always on Sundays.)
