Household Batteries There are several types of household batteries. Here are your recycling/disposal options; Single Use Alkaline Batteries These batteries should go in the trash. They no longer contain mercury so they do not pose a hazard. We recommend that you switch to rechargeable batteries. The current generation of rechargeable batteries work far better than previous types and they can be recycled when they no longer hold a charge.
Rechargeable Batteries Rechargeable batteries that no longer hold a charge can be recycled at many drop off locations. To find a location near you go to... Rechargeable Batteries from Cell Phones and Cordless Appliances/Tool These batteries can be removed from the appliances and recycled at many drop off locations. To find a location near you go to.... Watch and Hearing Aide Batteries These batteries can be recycled. Most hearing aide retailers recycle these batteries as do many jewelers. If your store does not recycle these batteries they can be mailed to the Streets Division, 1501 W. Badger Rd., Madison, WI, 53713. Atten: George Dreckmann. They can also be dropped off at 1501 W. Badger Rd during regular business hours M-F from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
