Spotting a Census Scam

 

The Census Bureau will never:

  • Ask for your Social Security number
  • Ask for money
  • Ask for your bank or credit card information
  • Ask for your mother's maiden name
  • Promote a political party
  • Ask to come into your home
  • Send unsolicited emails to request your participation
  • Threaten you with arrest if you do not comply

 

When Filling out the Census form, it will not:

  • Ask for your Social Security number
  • Ask for your bank or credit card information
  • Ask about your political affiliation
  • Ask about citizenship or immigration status

 

REPORTING SUSPECTED FRAUD

If you suspect fraud, call (800)925-8282 to speak with a local Census Bureau representative. If you receive a suspicious email, do not click any links or open any attachments. Forward the email or website URL to the Census Bureau at ois.fraud.reportingacensus.gov
